UPDATES~ (2003-2004)
12.11.04
There's a new song online if you want to take a listen, a little acoustic demo. It doesn't have a name yet so please send any suggestions my way! Hope you like!
(Read the lyrics here.)

Wow, so I recently bought a batch of new CDs I've been meaning to pick up, and I tell you what: the new Green Day CD (American Idiot) just blows them all away. It's really something else, surprisingly great. Highly recommended!!
12.07.04
Hey, I'll come right out and say it.... Jon Gorey CDs make great Christmas presents! Hee hee.

In other news, look for a new MP3 online in the next few days. Hope it's to your liking!

Check out this article by the great Kurt Vonnegut.
11.15.04
This just in: I'll be playing a solo acoustic set this Friday night (11/19) at the Sweetwater Cafe at 9:30pm. Free!
11.09.04
So let's try and remember the good times, shall we? Just got some pictures from October 27th, 2004, otherwise known as The Day the Red Sox Won the World Series. So THIS is what it looks like when your team wins it all after 86 years!

11.04.04
Ok, so I've calmed down a little bit. As you can see, I was pretty fired up yesterday. And see that's the dangerous and scary thing about this administration and president: their isolating policies, attitudes and actions push someone like myself, by all acounts a pretty moderate liberal, WAY to the left just to overcompensate for them.

In related news, we're going to throw a party Saturday, Nov. 20th, and you're all invited, regardless of political affiliation of course. (And I'm sorry to vent all these frustrations on what should be strictly a musical updates page, but it's all over my mind.) Anyway, here's the info- if you don't know where our house is, email me and I'll get you directions!

Recall Bush, Remember Clinton!
Saturday, Nov. 20th ~ 9:30pm til late
Free booze provided (bring your own if you're picky)
College-era music, beer pong, flippy cups...
Fun fun fun!!!

11.03.04
Ugh. It looks like Bush won. I can't believe this. I'm so embarrassed by, and ashamed of, our country right now, or at least half of it, to willfully re-elect this stubborn, reckless, bellicose, short-sighted, buffoon of a man to the most powerful political office in the world. We should chisel off the northeast, what is certainly the most important corridor in the US, and probably in the world, from Boston to New York to Philadelphia to Baltimore to D.C., and set off into the Atlantic. If you want to stay, stay. Have fun in Indiana. Although we'd somehow have to rescue our land-locked friends in Illinois.

Ugh. I'm getting out of here. I'll see y'all in 2008. Or in 2007 to campaign for Obama. As of now, I'm seeking political asylum in Europe. Anyone overseas want to adopt a disenfranchised American musician?
11.01.04
I don't want to take anything away from the joyous Red Sox World Series entry below, so read my beef with Mayor Menino and the BPD on a separate page if you like. Also, make sure you get out and vote tomorrow!
10.28.04
Wow. They really did it! Can you believe that??! Foulkie just threw the ball to first, and it was over, just like that... we win. We won!! I can hardly believe it. What a beautiful day in Boston. 8 postseason games in a row! Unheard of. Wow. WOW! The Cardinals, NL leaders in runs scored, didn't even put up a single run against Lowe and Co. last night. I mean holy incroyable!!

What a team. How can you not love these guys?! Remember when the Pats came out in the 2002 Super Bowl, introduced as a team? That's the feeling you get from these guys. I always want to see Pedro, Manny and Papi together, the greatest amigos dominicanos ever. I hope they bring every last player back and overpay for all of them but it's unlikely... so it makes this all so much more special. What a great summer. And it all ends with a victory parade on Saturday. Victory parade! For us! Right here in Boston, I'm not kidding!! :)

So let me know what you think about it all, where you watched the game, what you're doing for the parade, who you called when they won. Do you feel like these guys?

My friend Glen from Focusin sent me an email that I really appreciated, saying, "holy crap. great job on the song man - for a lot of us it is the soundtrack to the best year of our lives." Thanks dude!

And since nobody is doing any work today anyway, check out these links:
- Bill Simmons's column of course
- and check out this really moving message board on the Sons of Sam Horn site, full of dedications from Sox fans all over the world

Man... God love 'em. I love those guys. Congratulations to the 2004 WORLD CHAMPION BOSTON RED SOX!!!!

(can you believe I just wrote that, and it's true?!!!!)

Wow, here it is, another Game 7 in New York. And win or lose, I'm going to be interviewed via satellite for Canada's CBC News Morning tomorrow at 7:30am... depending on the outcome, I'll either be a delirious, overjoyed mess... or a delerious, devastated mess! We'll see. If you're a friend north of the border, it'll be featured nationally on CBC Newsworld so check it out! And Let's Go Sox!!!
10.19.04
Hooooooooooooboy! So here we go, back to New York. The last time we played in NYC, the Sox came back to beat the Yankees in the 9th inning against Rivera... then we got the snot kicked out of us the next 2 games. But anyway, I feel like all I can do is hope for the best, it's out of our hands... we did our part at Fenway over the last 2 days (I'm now 5-0 career in home playoff games- not bad!) and now we've just got to hope the boys can pull out a couple wins on the road. Simple, right? :)

Whew.

Anyway, the show tonight is at Arlene's Grocery at 95 Stanton St. on the Lower East Side in NYC. Will Dailey goes on at 9pm and we're on at 10pm. Come by for a great show and, of course, another rendition of The Scarlet Letter!
09.20.04
I was interviewed recently for a fun story in the New Jersey Star-Ledger by Steve Politi, check it out! (Note: There is one misquote in the article-- I would never say I was "on line" unless I was, you know, checking email and fantasy baseball. I mean sheesh, do I look like I'm from New York?)
09.20.04
My goodness, thank you all SO much for making Friday night's show in NYC such an incredible time. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did (ok maybe not QUITE as much fun, as I've got a sore throat and headache to show for my weekend... but almost as much fun!) and enjoyed seeing the full band. Thanks to my friends from Boston who came down for the weekend too- I gotta say, playing the Scarlet Letter in enemy territory to rousing cheers felt pretty good! We won't talk about the rest of the Sox-Yankees series, except that I apologize to everyone who bought tickets off me.... of course I didn't know they'd get blown out like that, but I still feel bad. We'll get 'em at home this weekend though!

Anyway, really, thank you, thank you-- everyone in New York who brought friends along, everyone who made the trip from Boston-- we packed that place and they loved us. I really appreciate it, and I had so much fun catching up with all of you. Good times indeed!!!
08.31.04
The Scarlet Letter will be tonight's Homegrown feature on Rock 101 FM in New Hampshire at 9:40pm. If you're on the north side of things, tune in!!
08.26.04
Hiya! Just a couple new notes about Indeed! --

First, if you're headed to a Sox game during the next homestand, check out the jukebox at the Cask n' Flagon- my CD should be arriving there soon! It'll also be at Copperfield's on Brookline Ave. and at the Dugout (on Comm. Ave by B.U.) if you get the urge to drop a couple quarters in and play the Sox song for everyone at the bar. I'd be wicked grateful!

Secondly, the CD's still on sale at Newbury Comics (the Newbury St. and Havard Square locations) for just $8.99, and I've now got my own little name divider so you can find it! Sweet!

And lastly, anyone who's interested in making the trek to New York with us for the rockshow Friday night in the Village and the Sox-Yankees game in the Bronx on Saturday afternoon, get in touch and I'll get you a ticket. I've been buying up a slew of 'em on eBay, they're averaging about $50/each (for teir reserved seats- not great but not bad either). Let me know if you want in!
07.23.04
Holy wow. Thank you all SO much for coming out in force last night for what was truly a GREAT time! I love you guys- really!! I'm convinced my friends and family really are the best around. So hopefully, thanks to all your cheers, we'll be invited back to the Lizard Lounge (great place to see a show, isn't it?) real soon!

And to all you good people on the west coast, thank you for hosting me, for coming out on weeknights and bringing friends along too! It was great fun getting to hang out with some long lost friends. OH, and the ridiculously awesome music store in Los Angeles, Amoeba Music (loved the San Fran one too- you guys have it made out there!) now carries a copy of Indeed! for the low low price of $5.98, so pick one up on the cheap if you like!

Lastly, Indeed! got a pretty good review (7 out of 10 ain't bad!) on Neumu.net, check it out! And my word, just thank you all SO much!
07.09.04
Man, is there anything worse than getting towed?! To cap off a busy couple of days, I got towed last night after a terrific Guster/Rufus Wainwright show by the waterfront. $95 cash, gone. And you've gotta hike to some sketchy, scary part of town in the middle of the night and reason with meathead lunatics! Gets the blood boiling I tell ya!

So the Alrene's show was a LOT of fun! Thanks SO much to all of you who came out to see our New York debut. Rich left his bass behind and accompanied on the slide guitar, and it went over so well I think we're going to keep doing that pretty regularly. Hopefully thanks to your support we'll be back at Alrene's before you know it. And maybe next time they'll get my name right!

(Thanks to Dens Crowley for the photo- check out Dodgeball.com if you get a minute.)

07.01.04
Big full band show tonight! Come down to the Sweetwater Cafe in Boston, right off Boylston St. (in the Alley... Boylston T stop on the green line). We go on at 9:30pm and The Residence follows us at 11pm.
06.25.04
Please, please, please do yourself the service of seeing Michael Moore's new documentary, Farenheit 9/11. It really did make me laugh AND cry, like they always say. Of course, most of all, I was appalled and disturbed. Here, I'll get you started- you can buy tickets online through Fandango for the Loews in Boston Common or through MovieTickets.com for the Fenway 13. Ok that's the end of my political soapboxing!
06.16.04
I forgot to mention that if you want to pick up Indeed! without any online shenanigans and save a couple bucks as well, it's in stock at the original Newbury Comics (on Newbury Street) under "Misc. G." (In fact, I AM Misc. G... I'm the only one in there!) And they're selling it for the low low price of $8.99!
06.14.04
Howdy folks! I hope you've been enjoying these early days of summer... the good times are beginning to roll! Hee hee. So here's something to read if you're interested- Smother.net gave Indeed! a good review on their site! Also in the news, most of the local radio stations now have copies of the CD, so feel free to dial up and request the Scarlet Letter after a belligerent day at the ballpark, or any other favorite songs you might want to hear. I'd be MOST indebted, thanks! And lastly, anyone who was at the Cask for the live recording, you did so well that I promised you a free CD. Yet I still haven't run into some of you, so let me know where to find you and I'll deliver the merchandise, eh!
05.14.04
The CDs are in! Click HERE to order one online through CDFreedom.com. If you pre-ordered one through me you should find it in your mailbox in a couple days. I really hope you enjoy 'em!
04.30.04
Yesterday I sat in seat 28 at the Fens...

...and now all of a sudden I'm 28 years old. It was like some kind of crazy Fenway magic!
04.27.04
The new CD is officially out of my hands and D-U-N done, Terry Glenn style. It's off being pressed right now, and will appear in stores and on CDfreedom.com by May 18th. If you want to shave a couple bucks off the retail mark-up and preorder one through me, I'll mail it to you the very same day I get them (I promise!), which should be next Thursday or Friday (the 6th or 7th).
04.08.04
More new music for you from the upcoming CD (which will be called "Indeed!" by the way):

Kylie I Can't Say

Plight of the 20-Something Would-Be Hero

These are near-final mixes courtesy of Rich Brewer, our friend, bassman and amateur audio tech. Hope you enjoy 'em! The new CD will be available for sale at about the end of April- I'll put up a link on the CDs page so you can pre-order one if you're antsy!
04.05.04
INDEEED!!! Wow you guys were Great on Friday night. By the way, everybody who came to help us record the Scarlet Letter gets a free copy of the new CD, so get in touch with me in a couple of weeks! Hopefully you can hear yourself in the crowd. It came out great, I'm wicked happy about it. We mixed things down today and I've posted the initial mix online (it still needs to be mastered and stuff but I couldn't wait!):

THE SCARLET LETTER (Live at the Cask n' Flagon)

Hope you enjoy it! Please forward the link to anyone you think might like the song! And thanks so much to ALL of you who came out!
04.02.04
Heyah! Tonight we're going to be recording the Scarlet Letter (the ol' Red Sox drinking song I've been working on for a couple months) at the Cask n' Flagon at around 9PM. Come on down, to quoth Bob Barker, cuz we want to get a good rowdy ruckus in the background! Click here for an acoustic demo of the song if you want to get used to it a bit. Hope to see you!
03.20.04
Sure feels like spring is just a day away! Yep, all this snow is just meltin' away into warm, warm sunshine. Yep... sigh. Well, our snowy Saint Patrick's Day show was terrific, thanks to Audrey Ryan on the violin, that was a blast. And I think the revelers had fun too. Anyway the next show in store is a full band humdinger so if you'd like to hear what the hell we sound like plugged in, come on down to the GoodTime Emporium in Somerville next Friday night (the 26th). We go on at 9PM sharp and there are some great bands following us. Hope to see you!
03.07.04
Well, I'm unemployed again, and as such, day by day you'll start seeing a much improved website- hope it's to your liking! The fundraiser went GREAT last night- aside from an all out brawl instigated by some rowdy pub-crawlers (they were at the end of the crawl, and a little, uh, belligerent? angry? wasted?)- and I think Slice raised quite a bit of money for Dana-Farber. AND I won 2 Sox tickets! One more thing, check out Bishop Allen when you get a chance. Saw them at the Abbey Lounge on Friday night, and damn- I'm hooked bad!
03.02.04
Heya folks! I'm playing this Saturday night at a fundraiser for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Kirk's friend Slice is running the Boston Marathon this April to help them raise money, and he's hoping to reach about $2000-- big potatoes! There'll be free appetizers, cheerful company, a couple of acoustic sets by yours truly, AND raffles for Yankees tickets, a Patriots Super Bowl DVD, and more fun stuff. Tickets are 10 bucks in advance, and 15 at the door- email me if you need advance tickets and I'll figure out how to get 'em. In other news, recording's going slowly, but, I assure you, still going and going well! I'll let you know when we're finished!
12.15.03
Hey there! Okay, new plan. We're going to record some more stuff in January, including a couple new songs and a couple that didn't come out so great last time. So, yeah, no new CD for the holidays, sorry! But when (should I say if?!) it ever materializes, I promise it'll be worth the wait! Again, here's a link to my favorite new song so far, Gray Blue Morning, to curb your appetite in the meantime.
8.15.03
There's a new song online, if you'd like to take a listen. Not sure what it's called yet but I like it- hope you enjoy!
